Since my friend bought her car last year, she’s always hated how her bonnet had been left by the previous owners – the best way I can describe it is that it was as if they used the wrong colour, didn’t sand back the paint & didn’t put any top coat on it; it was like very patchy sandpaper.
I offered to sand it all down and repaint it providing she bought the correct paint (she then came back with Halfords paint – next time I know to clarify that Halfords paint is not the correct paint!).
I started early one Saturday and whilst they went out shopping, I had created a DIY paint shop and was having a great time – Planet Rock on the radio, respirator on head etc. It was quite a nice way to spend my Saturday after all!
All in all, I’m very pleased with how it has turned out so far. I will attach some photos below; unfortunately there wasn’t enough paint to complete the final coat so I’ve had to get the bonnet back on the car with the plan to finish off the bonnet when she is next free. The last things I need to do is:
- Apply one final coat of paint
- Once dry, sand this down until smooth
- Apply clearcoat and allow to set/harden
- Polish bonnet back to original sheen to match current bodywork
